Stages of Puppy Development During Pregnancy

    • There are three stages of development for puppies during pregnancy.
      Stage 1
Without the assistance of a trained professional who knows how to palpate the stomach to confirm the presence of puppies, diagnosing the pregnancy of a dog can be challenging within the first few weeks. Changes in the appearance of the mother's nipples, as well as her appetite and behavior, are often so subtle that the initial stages of pregnancy escape notice.  Hilde has an ultrasound scheduled 2nd week in November.
Around the third week, the cells of the embryo multiply and implant within the dog's uterus to begin the development process. At this stage---around 26 to 32 days into creation---a veterinarian will most likely be able to palpate and confirm the presence of the puppies.  HIlde is 3 wks October 30th.

    Stage 2

    • Around the fourth week the occupants of the dog's uterus begin to make themselves at home. The eyes and faces of the puppies begin to form, and their spinal cords take shape. During this time, the fetus is most susceptible to issues, which can in extreme cases cause embryonal/fetal death. While some of the congenital hindrances can be quite obvious immediately upon birth, many---such as defects to functioning organs---will remain hidden until well into the formative stages of the puppy's life.
Next up---around the fifth and sixth week---the puppies can double in size to around 20 to 30 mm. Now they're starting to look like puppies with toes and claws forming as well as tiny whisker stumps under the nose. Their eyes are still closed and their skin pigment has formed. At this stage, their bodies have developed to the point that the sex can be determined and a stethoscope can easily pick up a heartbeat.

    Stage 3

    • In the final phase of the pregnancy, the puppies continue their development safely within the womb. They continue to grow, and will begin to move around inside while mama's body prepares for the delivery.  Expectant delivery approximately December 12th
The puppies will take one of two positions inside the uterus in preparation for their big entrance into the world: anterior (nose and front paws pointed toward the birth canal) and posterior (tail and back paws appear first).
Before birth, they will be enclosed in two separate sacs. The outer one will split open during the birth process

The "G" Litter

this is the "G" litter

I nickname the puppies as they are born, hoping to give examples to the new owners to find "G" names for their puppies when they come home.  The registration comes with "Barefoot G" as the preface of the registration name.  I am adamant that the new owners name their puppies with that corresponding "G" letter for the puppies' call name.  If you are getting a puppy from us, please honor our system and pick an appopropriate "G" name.

here's names that I found on Hilde's and Everad's pedigrees that start with the letter "G."  As puppies whelp these are the names we choose from as their "nicknames" until they go home to their forever families.

Please feel free to vote for your favorite nicknames
could "tweak" the names to make sense ... like Grant for Grantham, or Grigg for Griggswood

a word about naming your puppy
 ABOUT DOG NAMES:

A HISTORIC REVIEW...

Humans have named their dogs with unique and cute names since dogs have been domesticated.

THE RIGHT DOG NAME:
Seaching for names for dogs is one of the first things new puppy owners will be doing.
If you are in the process of searching for cute dog names, several considerations should be made.

Dog's name should not sound similar to any command you will use (sit, stay, fetch, etc.)

A name beginning with an S will often cause puppies to be submissive when the name is used and around the people that say their name that has a "SS" sound.  A result of this can be the squat and pee when you first come home and say their name and they are excited and then you SSSS to them by saying their new name.  So, try not to name pups with a S, SH or soft CH sound. ... example:  "Sadie" come.  Sadie looks at you and says, well they do feed me and love me, but that sound ... hmm?!  I see it at dog training, someone will be having a problem getting their doggie to come with them or being overly shy, "I call them and he just turns and runs the other way"  ... proof of names that are a bad choice as ... "Chanel"  "Sadie"  "Florence"... it's anywhere in the name.
We have a standard poodle named Grace ... I soften it with Gracie, otherwise she won't come to me
If I had it to do over, I would have named her something without the 'sss' sound at the end of her name.

I also say no to swear words as names

I completed my "Penny" obedience training when I was 15 and she was four.  In our classes there were two dobermans, one named "Don't" the other "Damn It"   Their favorite thing was to yell across the park "Danm It Don't Come".  It's kind of comical, kind of not.  Please pick a worthy name for your purebred poodle.

Watch "Cesar Milan's "Dog Whisperer," Cesar will make a chss chss or sss sound to get the dog to stop a behavior, please note that's a dog's instinct to stay away from the sounds of 'ch' and 'sss' and "sh" and Cesar Milan shows us that while training dogs.

I nickname the puppies while they are with us to give people ideas to come up with their own names that don't start or have the 'sss' 'ch' or 'sh' sound anywhere in the name.  There's many lists of dog and baby names to choose from, I search for months before picking out a nickname for our puppies.  I have no problem with people keeping their names or using another litter's or siblings name either.

Please keep to the litter's alphabet Letter, it's so much fun when we have puppy gatherings to have each litter with their alphabet names, we do this for the puppies we get from other breeders and with the puppies we keep from our own litters.

thank you, Paula

We  know many dog names from Egyptian sources from thousands of years ago, like "The Brave One", "Reliable" and others, decribing the nature of a dog. Other names referred to the dog´s colour, like "Blackie" "CreamPuff."
